Gutter Bookshelves

Gutter bookshelves have been on my household wish list for quite a while now. I finally got my husband to help me make some a week or so ago. We decided to put some up in our bonus room, and also next to our older kids' beds. They turned out really cute, and now I can't wait to put up more of them! They're easy and economical; I think we paid less than $10 for a 10 ft. pice of gutter that we cut to make four individual shelves out of (two 3 ft. shelves, and two 2 ft. shelves).

These shelves kind of turned this little area into a reading nook. I love that! Now I have ideas for enhancing this nook's coziness. :)

Show Me Your Book Nook!

Here's one of ours!

O.K. Maybe it doesn't look like what you would imagine a book nook should look like, but it's a space in our house where we read, and therefore can be considered a "book nook."

This particular book nook is in our bonus room. The bonus room is where my son, Isaac, spends much of his time playing. We keep a small heap of toys in this room for him, and amongst the toys are always at least a few books.

Isaac likes to flip through his books while he plays... Or sometimes I read to him while he plays... Or, if he's in the right mood, he might just let me sit with him on my lap and read to him. Now that he's on the move though, the latter doesn't happen much. This is disappointing to me, but I know it's just a phase.

Now that I've shown you one of our book nooks, now lets see yours! A book nook can be a place you read by yourself, a place you read with your child(ren), or simply a special place you keep your books! If you're anything like me, your book nooks are often changing. If that's the case, show us what's new in your book nook this month!

Let's inspire one another to create space for books!!

Mr. Linky doesn't seem to be working properly right now. Please post a comment with a link to your book nook for us to see!

Show Me Your Book Nook!

It's that time of month again! Time to show off your book nooks! You know, that favorite spot where you kick back with a good read, keep your treasured novels, or make fun books accessible to your little ones. I wanna see!!

Above is a photo of one of my book nooks. This is my favorite bookshelf. I bought it at IKEA, and I really wish I had bought two, because after I got it home I realized all my books don't fit on it. Sad day!

I love that I can show off my cute plush toys here though.

And it's also a handy place to store my lesson plan bags (in the basket).

Now that you've seen mine, it's time to show me yours! Paste the link to your book nook post (not your blog's homepage) in the Mr. Linky below. Be sure to leave a comment here, and link back to my blog in your post!

Show Me Your Book Nook!

I love to be inspired by other people's spaces. Especially the spaces where they read, or keep their books and such! Here's another on of my book nooks:

This is a basket that is kept in the corner of our breakfast nook (it's a nook within a nook). I keep books, puppets, and CDs in it to use with my son. I utilize the contents of this basket mostly during breakfast time, but also during meal prep or kitchen cleaning times too (especially those CDs).

Right now the basket contains:
  • Horton Hatches the Egg
  • George Shrinks
  • More More More Said the Baby
  • Owl Babies
  • Just So Stories (audio CD)
  • The Story Tree (audio CD)
  • A turtle puppet
Oh, and here's what the rest of my breakfast nook looks like:

I didn't bother cleaning it up before I took the photo. Sorry. You can't see my basket in this photo, but it's tucked in the corner behind the high chair.

Now it's time to see your book nook! When sharing, be sure to link to the specific post of your book nook. Also, include a link back to this blog.

UPDATE: Mr. Linky code was wreaking havoc on my blog's layout. I don't have time to mess around with it. So leave a comment with a link to your post of your book nook in your comment!! Thanks!

SHOW US YOUR BOOK NOOK!

Yes, you have a book nook. Everybody does... or should! It's that place where you keep your favorite books, where you read with your little one(s), or where you curl up with a cup of tea and a good novel. Maybe it's a humble book case, maybe it's an overstuffed ottoman, maybe it's simply a spot on the floor. Whatever it is, we want to see it!

I love seeing how other people live, and as someone who lives to encourage reading, I really love seeing where they read (or where they keep their reading). So, show us and/or tell us about your book nook. Photos are awesome, but you can describe it to us if you're not able to include a photo.

I plan to make this a regular feature here, so you'll have plenty of chance to show off all of your book nooks overtime!

Here's one of my book nooks!

This book nook is in the loft in our house (the loft is where my "office" is). I snagged this rocker from my mom when I was pregnant and had someone refinish it for me. The new finish didn't turn out so great though. Ah well, it didn't ruin the functionality of the chair.
This is where I sit with my son before nap times and bedtime. We read a couple books from the pile and cuddle together. It's one of my favorite spots in the house!

Standard Mr. Linky rules apply here:
  • Enter the link to the specific post on your blog featuring your book nook, not a link to your blog's homepage.
  • Include a link back to my blog in your post
